Physical Exam for Adult Drug Use Problems

A physical exam is one way your doctor looks for signs of drug use problems or dependence. During your physical exam, your doctor may check for:

  • Nose or lung problems from using cocaine.
  • Needle marks from injecting drugs.
  • Small, "pinpoint" pupils in your eyes.
  • A fast heart rate.
  • Sweating.
  • Slurred speech.
  • A runny nose or watery eyes.
  • Liver problems.
